''It has been a wonderful tenure in the Tata group. Looking forward to a new and exciting entrepreneurial journey,'' Rajan twitted on Thursday.
''Mukund Rajan, 49, chief ethics officer, has conveyed personal reasons for his decision to leave Tata Sons and has indicated he will be evaluating certain entrepreneurial pursuits in the coming months,'' Tata Sons said in a statement.
''Tata Sons thanks him for his distinguished services in various leadership roles including in the telecommunication sector, private equity space and branding strategy, as a Tata Administrative Service (TAS) Officer in the Tata Group, over a period of 23 years,'' it said.
Rajan and Tata Sons have mutually agreed that he will leave the services of Tata Sons on 31 March 2018, the statement added.
Rajan had worked in various roles with the group. He was the managing director of Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd and later appointed as the group spokesperson and brand custodian in February 2013.
He was also a part of the Group Executive Council (GEC) set up in April 2013.
Rajan has worked with three successive Chairmen - Ratan Tata, Cyrus Mistry and N. Chandrasekaran - and was also the Managing Partner of the $600 million Tata Opportunities Fund.
