Tata Teleservices announces massive expansion plan for AP

Hyderabad: Tata Teleservices (TTSL) is investing Rs 446 crore in Andhra Pradesh in an aggressive expansion plan. With this expansion Tata Indicom will be present in 166 new towns by the end of the year. It also plans to add 300 new cell sites to the already existing 160 cell sites by the end of the fiscal.

The expansion has begun with the launch of services in the town of Nizamabad in the Telengana region of the state.

Prabhat Pani, chief operating officer, AP and Karnataka circles, told newspersons, "With this aggressive expansion, Tata Indicom is entering a new growth trajectory in AP. Our endeavour is to provide a seamless network and to ensure that our customers get uninterrupted and quality service."

Pani said the expansion would be funded through internal accruals and financial Institutions.

The company recently launched a new service for companies called Push-to-Talk (PTT) in Bangalore and would be launching this facility across the country in the coming months.

The company has also launched a collection of 1000 mobile games — which it says is among the largest collection mobile games in the world.

The company also plans to launch pre-paid fixed wireless phones, public booths besides expanding Wi-Fi services to public spots shortly.

TTSL has recently acquired a universal access service licence (UASL) for 12 new circles. The new circles are Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh (East and West) and West Bengal.

The company plans to launch its services in these new circles by September 2004. At present, TTSL serves over 18 lakh customers in over 112 towns.

The company plans to increase this to over 1,000 towns in 20 circles by March 2005.

At present Tata Indicom offers services in 21 towns in AP. The new expansion will take it across the three geographical regions namely Telengana, Costal Andhra and the Rayalseema region.

He revealed that till now Tata Indicom had invested about Rs 2,000 crore in AP including investment on license fee and equipment.
