Telstra selects Infosys for AD&M contract

Australia's largest telecommunications services provider, Telstra, has awarded Infosys five-year, $450-million AUD application development and maintenance contract.

Telstra has also put in $1.2 billion for renewing its technology support and services contracts with IBM and Electronic Data Systems upto 2014. Earlier, these contracts were held by Satyam, EDS, IBM GS and Infosys.

The restructuring is part of the company's aim at vendor consolidation for reducing IT management costs.

''This win speaks to Infosys' ability to bring its solution and delivery capability in large scale transformation projects,'' said Infosys Australia CEO Jackie Korhonen. ''We believe our proven delivery excellence, global expertise and knowledge of the Australian market will help Telstra deliver more responsive service to its customers in Australia and around the world.''

Apart from maintenance and support of core applications, the agreement with Infosys includes discretionary expenditure during the five year period.

Telstra is Australia's leading telecommunications and information services company, a 3G market leader, with 4.4 million 3G customers, and the second largest full-service provider in New Zealand and the leading mobile operator in Hong Kong. It holds controlling stake in China's real estate and home furnishing web site, SouFun. In June 2008, it acquired 55 per cent of two Chinese online companies, Norstar Media and Autohome / PCPop.
