24 Aug 2012
Toyota Kirloskar Motor today launched the new Camry premium sedan priced at Rs23.80 lakh.
One of the most successful brands for Toyota globally, in India, the Camry would be only available in a single petrol variant featuring automatic transmission.
Positioned higher than the outgoing model, the new Camry would take on industry leader Skoda Superb, followed by the Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and the Nissan Teana.
According to Sandeep Singh, deputy MD, this would uplift the image of the old Camry. He added, it was a luxurious sedan with emotional and rational basics.
The company has taken 50 bookings for the car and has plans for a print and electronic advertorial campaign to push sales.
Replying to a question was to why the carmaker did not consider a diesel variant, since the market leader Superb's sales mostly came from the diesel option, Singh said that Toyota had only petrol and hybrid variants of the sedan globally.
