Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota today launched the petrol variant of its small car Liva, priced between Rs3.99 lakh and Rs5.99 lakh, marking is entry into the premium hatchback segment.
The hatchback, developed on the Etios platform, is the cheapest offering from Toyota, and highly competitive for the segment. The J variant of Liva is priced at Rs3.99 lakh and the G variant is priced at Rs4.59 lakh.
Reports suggest that Liva might just force rivals to consider price cuts. Liva is also expected to drive volumes in India and, eventually, other emerging markets.
"With Liva we will now be a complete manufacturer in India, offering a full range of products including the luxury SUV Prado," said Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
Toyota's portfolio in India includes the Innova and Fortuner, Camry sedan, SUVs like Prado and Land Cruiser, and the Etios sedan, which the company had launched last year.
Since launch, Toyota Kirloskar has sold over 20,000 Etios sedans, which starts at Rs4.96 lakh, to customers with around 10,000 units more on booking list.
