Toyota to recall 23,157 Corolla Altis luxury sedan in India over faulty Takata airbags
06 Apr 2017
Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corp today said that it will recall 23,157 units of the Corolla Altis luxury sedan in India over faulty airbags manufactured by Takata Corp.
The recalled Corolla Altis sedans were manufactured between January 2010 and December 2012 in India, Toyota said.
The recall is to replace the defective airbag inflator manufactured by Takata and propellant devices that may deploy improperly in the event of a crash, shooting metal fragments into vehicle occupants.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors, Toyota's Indian unit, will be informing the customers about the exercise and the recall will be done free-of-cost.
Apart from India, Toyota will be recalling the Corolla Altis in Japan, China, Oceania and other regions.
Toyota has already recalled 2.9 million Corolla Altis globally over the same issue. The Takata airbag issue has impacted around 100 million cars worldwide so far.
