Telenor logoTelecom services carrier Uninor on Friday announced its largest-ever expansion drive in the Maharashtra and Goa circle, where it has increased the network coverage by 25 per cent.

Uninor – which will be renamed Telewings after the divorce between Norway's Telenor and Indian partner Unitech is finalised - said it would deploy over 1,000 additional network sites over the next five months, which would add an additional population of over 70 lakh to its coverage.

The expansion would take the company's coverage to an additional 200 towns and villages across the circle as well as strengthen the network in existing towns and villages. This would also result in the expansion of the company's retail network with over 5,000 new points of sale, and create additional employment.

''Our subscribers will now get better network experience as they enjoy the lowest tariffs that only Uninor offers,'' said Ritesh Singh, circle business head, Maharashtra and Goa.

The expansion comes at a time when Uninor has achieved profitability in its operations in Maharashtra and Goa.

At the end of this phase of expansion, Uninor will have over 4,490 network sites, with 70,000 point of sales outlets, 300 express stores, 1,000 Radio System Entityies and about 315 distributors in the Maharashtra and Goa circle. Together, this distribution network would cater to over 10 million existing and potential subscribers in the circle.
