One of the interesting aspects of the course is a person can become an insurance agent by passing the principles and practice of general insurance subject and after undergoing 100 hours of practical training. Successful completion of the two-semester (eight-subject) course qualifies one to become a licensed surveyor or loss assessor, subject to other statutory conditions.
This is the second time that United India has ventured into to offer a vocational course. In the eighties, the company took the initiative to start an insurance course at the plus-two stage in schools and guaranteed jobs for all successful students.
Talking about the diploma course, United India CMD V Jagannathan says: “This is the first time in the world that a non-life insurance company has joined hands with a university to offer a correspondence course in insurance.“
While the university will offer the diploma certificate, United India will lend its expertise in preparing the course material.
