Volkswagen to recall 26,452 cars in the US over potential fire hazard
19 Apr 2014
German carmaker Volkswagen AG (VW) yesterday said that it is recalling 26,452 cars in the US over potential risk of the transmissions oil cooler leak that can lead to a fire.
The recall affects VW's 2014 models built after 1 February of the Jetta, Passat and Beetle cars with the new 1.8-liter turbo four engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
VW said that the the O-ring seals between the oil cooler and the transmission may leak fluid, which could contact a hot surface and result in a fire.
It said that the fault came to its notice last month after it noticed leaks when the cars arrived at a port.
The carmaker had on 8 April instructed dealers to stop sales of these vehicles until investigations are over.
VW said that here are no known fires or crashes that have resulted from the issue.
''We will officially notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as soon as possible and will be in contact with (affected) customers,'' the company said in a statement.
VW dealers will replace the O-ring seals in the transmission oil cooler free of cost.
