Yahoo looks to its tormentor Marissa Mayer for succor

Yahoo Inc has finally turned to its tormentor, Google Inc's Marissa Mayer, to help lift the struggling former web powerhouse out of its current troubles. Marissa Mayer, 37, an engineer, is Yahoo's new CEO, its third in a year.
Mayer is assuming office at Yahoo today, when the company is scheduled to report its quarterly financial results.
Mayer, an established Silicon Valley engineer and a top executive at Google for the past 13 years, has been responsible for developing many of Google's services that have diminished Yahoo appeal among web surfers.
Yahoo, once the top internet search engine, has been lagging search leader Google as also the newborn Facebook in the battle for advertisements.
Mayer, who edged out Yahoo's acting chief executive Ross Levinsohn, hopes to renew the company's focus on web technology and products rather than beefing up online content to bring it back on the revival path.
Mayer, Google's first female engineer, has led a number of its businesses, and was instrumental in developing the clean, simple Google search interface that has attracted surfers.
