CAT site attack revives memories of CAT 2009
02 Sep 2010
It seems the online CAT format has failed to leave behind its teething troubles from last year when it was launched for the first time.
Glitiches in the online format apparently still persist as evident from the experience of aspirants who visited the the exam's official site www.cat.iim.in yesterday and found to their horror that the portal was hosting malware files.
The bug could not have appeared at a worse time as the sale of CAT 2010 vouchers and online registration got under way only two days ago. Needless to say many who visited the portal must have been left wondering whether CAT 2010 might turn out to be a replay of the nightmarish CAT 2009.
The site started acting up late on Tuesday with a number of visitors reporting that the site popped a warning saying, ''"This web page at catiim.in has been reported as an attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences." But if that was not enough even Google search stated that 'this site may harm your computer.'
CAT aspirants use the site to gain access to information including all details, dates etc even though the site does not host an online registration functionality.
According to chairman of the CAT 2010 committee, Himanshu Rai of IIM-Lucknow, the site was infected with malware during the uploading of some pages on Monday.
