Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has launched its innovation contest ‘Dare to Dream 2.0’ on the fifth death anniversary of former President and noted scientist APJ Abdul Kalam.
Kalam, also known as India’s missile man, had the vision of self-reliance. The scheme is being launched for emerging technologies to promote innovation by individuals and startups in defence and aerospace technologies following the call of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
‘Dare to Dream 2.0’ is an open challenge to all innovators and startups of the country. The winners will be decided after due evaluation by an expert committee. Award money, up to Rs10 lakh for startup and Rs5 lakh to individual category, will be given to the winners.
Kalam was a great humanitarian and a visionary who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007, taught students and achieved milestones as a scientist.
Dr Kalam passed away on 27 July 2015, while delivering a lecture to students at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. But, he is still fondly remembered by the citizens of India as a source of inspiration.
In his words, "You have to dream before your dreams can come true."
On his death anniversary today, we look back at his contribution to the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) and DRDO.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh expressed his happiness in announcing the contest for the ‘Ignited Minds’, whether innovators or startups. A defence ministry release said further information on the `Dare to dream 2.0’ contest will be made available on DRDO website www.drdo.gov.in soon.
