IIM-Shillong graduating batch upbeat over job offers

The entire first-batch of students graduating from the newest Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Meghalaya has got job offers with average annual salaries of around Rs10 lakh and the highest pay package worth a whopping Rs34 lakh.
The mood at IIM Shillong (IIM-S) is therefore naturally upbeat.
IIM-S, unlike its more celebrated peers is relatively unknown outside the northeast. The institute, named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, opened in 2008 from a makeshift campus and still functions out of an interim facility.
Nestled in the mountains, amidst the backdrop of pine trees and lush green lawns, the institute functions out of the Mayurbhanj Complex, the erstwhile summer palace of the kings of Mayurbhanj, Orissa.
Though handicapped by its distant location, over a third of the students landing their jobs over video-conferenced interviews and the recently concluded placement exercise saw recruiters, both domestic and foreign offer attractive packages to the young managers.
The institute will be the first among the IIMs to webcast its annual convocation ceremony live on 3 April, with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee delivering the convocation address.
