Kokrajhar, Tawang in the northeast likely to get new airports

New Delhi: As part of the Government of India''s special emphasis on developing connectivity with the country''s north-eastern regions, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is now studying the prospects of developing two new airports at Kokrajhar in Assam and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

The AAI is also mulling the possibility of developing an airport at Cheithu in Nagaland and upgrading infrastructure at the Pakyong airport in Gangtok.

"Government of India is giving special emphasis for development of airports in the north-eastern region and as per our plan, we are preparing feasibility studies for new airports in Kokrajhar, Tawang," AAI''s executive director (planning) GK Chaukiyal said at a conference on Airport Development and Modernisation here.
