National Innovation Council, CSIR to jointly promote innovation clusters

The National Innovation Council (NInC) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) today announced a partnership to jointly promote cluster innovation centres across the country.
The partnership will combine of NInC's industry and university innovation cluster initiative and the CSIR-800 initiative of CSIR with the technopreneur promotion programme (TePP) of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
NInC chairman and adviser to the prime minister on public information infrastructure and innovations Sam Pitroda and Prof Samir Brahmachari, chairman of CSIR and secretary to the DSIR, ministry of science and technology, signed the partnership agreement.
NInC has been set up to prepare a roadmap for innovations in the 2010-2020 period, which has been declared as the `Decade of Innovation', with a focus on inclusive growth.
The roadmap will outline interventions, policies, recommendations and methodologies to implement and foster innovation, especially in the 26 million-strong micro, small and medium (MSMEs) sector.
The NInC strategy focuses on five key parameters of creating a platform, inclusion of all sectors, creating an eco-system, creating or finding drivers and continuing the open discourse on innovation.
