Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer today hailed the contributions of the students and faculty of the Indian Institutes of Technology even as union minister Jairam Ramesh expressed doubts about the quality of the faculty at the IITs and IIMs.
Ballmer, on the other hand, gave thumps up to some of the "finest and brightest" Indian minds with him at Microsoft, who, he said, hailed from the IITs. He also hailed the research work being done at the IITs.
Addressing students and faculty of IIT Delhi campus, on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Microsoft CEO said he had known about the faculty and the type of research being done at the IITs.
He also had discussions with the faculty of the Computer Science Department of the IIT.
"I have been hearing about IITs for many many years and we have a lot of IIT chaps at Microsoft," he said.
The Microsoft CEO was all praise for the students of IITs, especially the one in Delhi, and said he wanted to see "some of the "finest and brightest minds" among the audience to be with him.
Ballmer also mentioned how he was made to read some 70 letters written by a crazy IIT Delhi student on why he should be recruited by Microsoft. He said the letters were so passionate that he took it as his first job to recruit the "crazy guy".
