TRAI issues amendments to porting, intelligent network regulations

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today announced revised ceiling on interconnectivity or porting charges. TRAI also announced amendments to regulations for intelligent network operators.
The telelecom sector regulator today issued amendments to The Telecommunication Interconnection (Port Charges) (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2012 and the 'Intelligent Network Services in Multi Operator and Multi Network Scenario (Amendment) Regulations, 2012.
TRAI has specified the ceiling for providing interconnectivity using Tandem/ TAX switch as Rs10,000 per port per annum and for providing port in MSC, the ceiling has been specified as Rs4,000 per port per annum.
The revised port charges will come into effect from 1 October 2012, a TRAI release said today.
Port is an essential part for the establishment of the interconnection between two networks. Port is a place of termination on a switch/exchange to provide point of interconnection (POI) for ingress and egress of traffic between the two interconnecting networks.
The port charges are payable by the interconnection seeker to the interconnection provider for terminating interconnection links on the network interface of the interconnection provider.
