The telecom regulator will come out with new pricing norms for 2G (second generation) spectrum by this month-end, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman JS Sarma said yesterday. Sarma was speaking at an industry forum in New Delhi.

'We are more or less coming to a close to our work... I suppose very shortly,' said Sarma.

Replying to a query whether the recommendations would be released by October end, he said: 'We are trying to do that.'

Earlier in May this year, the regulator had proposed that operators pay a one-time fee for holding 2G spectrum in excess of 6.2 MHz based on 3G prices.

Telecom providers were strongly opposed to this and the regulator said it would submit fresh proposal to the government following a consultation process.

Responding to a question regarding mobile number portability (MNP) Sarma said it would be implemented within the time frame or a few days later.
