The cabinet committee on economic affairs today approved its turnaround and restructuring plan for Air India, which includes a government bailout of Rs30,000 crore for the airline by 2020 and a restructuring of debt

Apart from restructuring its debt, which would ease its interest burden by almost Rs1,000 crore, the ailing national carrier may also be allowed to issue government-guaranteed bonds worth Rs7,400 crore

If the government had not taken over Air India from the Tatas, maybe the airline would have been one of the best in the world now and New Delhi or Mumbai would have been the world’s fastest growing aviation hub.
