Idea Cellular posts consolidated net profit of Rs228.57 crore in December quarter

Idea Cellular has posted a 13.72-per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs228.57 crore for third quarter ended 31 Decembert 2012, in spite of regulatory interventions and tough business environment, compared with Rs200.98 crore posted during the comparable quarter of previous fiscal.
However, the net profit lags industry estimates with analysts expecting the company to post an average of Rs 265 crore net profit.
The GSM operator's total income rose 10.88 per cent to Rs 5,578.58 crore on a consolidated basis during the quarter under review, compared with Rs 5,030.82 crore recorded in the comparable quarter of previous fiscal.
"The quarterly revenue growth is primarily led by expansion of voice minutes at the rate of 5.2 per cent to 132.2 billion minutes, compared to 125.6 billion minutes in Q2 FY'13," Idea Cellular Managing Director Himanshu Kapania said.
Idea's revenue from mobility business rose by 9 per cent at Rs 540.79 crore during the reported quarter from Rs 494.54 crore on yearly basis.
The net profit before finance charges and tax in the mobility business dropped by 3.2 per cent at Rs473.76 crore during Q3 FY'13, compared with Rs489.59 crore in Q3 FY'12.
