The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) yesterday claimed to have busted a multi-crore railway recruitment scam involving some senior railway officials.
The investigating agency said it has arrested eight persons in this connection, including one Vivek Bhardwaj Sharma, son of SM Sharma, chairman of Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Mumbai, the then additional divisional railway manager (ADRM) of Raipur, AK Jagannathan, his son Srujan and a Raipur-based agent.
CBI spokesperson Harsh Bhal said in New Delhi that the agency unearthed a recruitment scam in the Railways when it conducted simultaneous raids in Mumbai, Bangalore, Raipur, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
The scam relates to the examinations for the posts of assistant loco pilot and assistant station master.
"It is estimated that the scam runs into several crores of rupees," Bhal said.
"The then ADRM, Raipur in connivance with the officials of RRB, Mumbai would secure a copy of the question paper before the examination date and provide the same to several aspirants," he added.
