Railways' April-August revenue up 10.30 per cent at Rs41,030 crore

Indian Railways has reported a 10.30 per cent year-on-year increase in its April-August revenues, at Rs41,030.37 crore against Rs37,198.66 crore during the same period last year.
Total earnings from goods traffic have gone up by 10.81 per cent to Rs27,435.82 crore during April-August 2011, from Rs24,760.02 crore during April-August 2010.
Total passenger revenue earnings during the first five months of the current financial year (2011-12) roce 10.39 per cent to Rs11,692.45 crore during April-August 2011 from Rs10,592.02 crore during the same period last year.
Revenue earnings from other traffic rose 12.09 per cent to Rs1,152.91 crore during April-August 2011 from Rs1,028.59 crore during the same period last year.
Total approximate number of passengers booked during April-August 2011 increased 5.09 per cent to 3,418.13 million during April-August 2011 from 3,252.59 million during the same period last year.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-April 2011 stood at 1,707.77 million and 1,710.36 million during April-August 2011 against 1,640.53 million and 1,612.06 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.10 per cent and 6.10 per cent, respectively.
