Railways’ April-November revenue up 10.22 per cent at Rs66,126 crore

Indian Railways' revenue earnings grew 10.22 per cent year-on-year to around Rs66,126.39 crore during April-November 2011-12, compared to Rs59,994.24 crore during the similar period of the previous year.
Total earnings from goods traffic of the Railways have gone up to Rs43,888.10 crore during April–November 2011, from Rs39,855.04 crore during April–November 2010, registering an increase of 10.12 per cent.
Revenue from passenger traffic during the first eight months of the financial year 2011-12 were up 9.67 per cent at Rs18,742.53 crore compared to Rs17,089.39 crore during the same period last year.
Earnings from other coaching increased 11.53 per cent to Rs1,860.46 crore during April-November 2011 compared to Rs1,668.15 crore during the same period last year.
The total numbers of passengers booked during April- November 2011 stood at around 5,518.68 million compared with 5,243.97 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.24 per cent.
This included 2,777.81 million passengers using the suburban section of the Railways and 2,740.87 million passengers using long-distance passenger trains. This compares with 2,675.21 million passengers using the suburban routes and 2,568.76 million using the long-distance passenger trains during the first eight months of the previous year.
