Railways hikes Tatkal ticket booking charges by a steep 33%

Beginning Friday, booking Tatkal tickets in the Railways has become costlier by up to 33 per cent, raising the overall cost of journey by Rs50 to Rs100 per ticket.
The Railways has effected a steep hike in Tatkal booking of sleeper class tickets to Rs200 from Rs175 and that for AC-3 tier to Rs400 from 300 effective Friday while raising the minimum booking charges to Rs300 from Rs250 and the maximum from Rs400 to Rs500 per person.
In sleeper class, the minimum Tatkal charge was Rs90, which has been hiked to Rs100. The minimum and maximum charges will depend on the travel distance.
According to a Railway notification, the minimum Tatkal charges for AC-III tier has been increased from Rs250 to Rs300 while the maximum has been hiked from Rs350 to Rs400.
In executive class, the minimum Tatkal charge has been hiked to Rs400 from Rs300 and maximum to Rs500 from Rs400.
However, Tatkal booking for second class sitting has not been changed and remain same at Rs10 and Rs15 as minimum and maximum charge, respectively, depending on the distance.
The announcement raising Tatkal booking charges by up to 33 per-cent came at the close of the Parliament session on Wednesday and the changes are effective Friday.
The hike is more for the AC class segment while the second class Tatkal charges remain unchanged.
