Trial runs begin on Delhi Metro’s ‘Heritage Line’

Trial runs on the 5.17-kilometre Heritage Line of the Delhi Metro, between the Income Tax Office and and Kashmere Gate, began on Wednesday. Part of the Violet Line, it has been called the ''toughest engineering line in the last decade'' by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The Heritage Line is expected to be open for commuters by the end of the year. During trial runs, DMRC officials will test the signalling system, train brakes, track system and the over head electrification.
The line includes Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid and Lal Quila Metro stations. Once it is operational, it will make Kashmere Gate station the first ever three-way interchange facility of the DMRC, with the violet, yellow and red lines passing through the station.
''The challenges encountered for the construction of this stretch are neither part of any course books nor are they taught in colleges. The completion of this Heritage Line is a feat of engineering,'' said DMRC managing director Mangu Singh.
