With the summer vacation rush round the corner, the Railways is gearing up for higher demand for online ticket booking in the coming days. In order to facilitate last minute travelling plans by booking `Tatkal tickets’ the IRCTC has introduced some changes in the rules.
As per the latest rules, Tatkal ticket will have to be booked a day before the date of travel. While booking of AC Tatkal ticket can be made from 10 am, sleeper class ticket can be booked on IRCTC website from 11 am.
In case of trains running more than three hours behind the original schedule, which may ruin travel plans, a person can claim full refund of Tatkal ticket fare.
A passenger can also claim complete refund of fare and Tatkal charges if the train’s route has been diverted and he/she does not want to travel on that route.
Also, a refund can be availed if a train is diverted and the passenger’s destination or boarding station is not on the new route.
According to a survey conducted recently, about 94 per cent of the rail commuters want the Indian Railways to refund 50 per cent on Tatkal tickets cancelled six hours before the departure of the train.
“Out of the 7,873 votes, 61 per cent citizens want the flexi fare to continue but also want lower fares when trains are empty while 29 per cent people want flexi fare to be abolished and base fare increased,” the survey conducted by social engagement platform Local Circles stated.
