Indian Railways has developed a tool to predict the probability of a wait-listed ticket getting confirmed at the time of booking as well as during 'passenger name record' (PNR) enquiry of wait-listed ticket.
The prediction is based on past trend analysis and provides a fairly accurate probability of the right wait-list prediction.
The tool has been developed using a machine learning algorithm. The machine learning model was developed using the wait-listed PNR data of past two years. This model creates a pattern for various wait-list scenarios and predicts the probability for the future date journey.
The salient features of the tool are:
- Predicts the probability of wait-list status for the general quota.
- The tool considers the high wait-list scenario during a holiday rush.
- It displays the trend of last wait-list tickets that got confirmed for the same journey during previous year.
- Prediction of dynamic probability is based on current status.
At present this feature is integrated only with Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and requires the user to have a login and password.
If while making the booking transaction, the accommodation availability is shown as wait-listed, then the user can check the probability of confirmation on the IRCTC website itself.
The user also can check the probability of confirmation at the time of making a PNR enquiry for wait-listed ticket.
