New Delhi: Flag carrier Air India has been designated as the official carrier for the PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Travel Mart 2008, which is to be held in Hyderabad this September. The carrier was selected by PATA's the India chapter.
With Air India being appointed as the preferred carrier for delegates attending the Mart from world over, the carrier will now be expected to offer special fares, and up-gradations at a cost, to delegates attending the event.
For delegates, transit to Hyderabad will be arranged from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
PATA selected Hyderabad as the venue considering good connectivity due to the new airport and state-of-the-art convention facilities. According to officials, the state government is working closely with PATA India to clear infrastructure bottlenecks, so that the event is conducted smoothly.
The government is addressing issues such as poor roads, availability of metered taxis, and transportation. Metered taxis have begun operations with the launch of the new airport at Shamsabad.
In addition to the infrastructure issues, pre- and post-convention tours are being planned for the delegates across India.
The last time a Travel Mart was held in India was fifteen years back at the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, in 1993. PATA India is now working hard to ensure that the 2008 event turns out to be an unqualified success.
