Apple has released a new range MacBook Pros, that are powered by new dual and quad core Intel processors and feature graphics capabilities, as also high-speed "Thunderbolt" input and output technology in addition to a new FaceTime HD camera.

According to the company's claims  ''the entire MacBook Pro line is up to twice as fast as the previous generation''.

The 13'' MacBook Pro is priced at £999 and offers dual-core processor speeds of up to 2.7GHz. The 15'' model starts at £1,549 and come with quad-core Core i7 processors and up to 1GB of video memory for gaming, video editing and graphics-intensive applications. A 17'' model will be offered for £2,099.

The MacBook Pro is also the first computer on the market to include ''Thunderbolt'' I/O technology, developed by Intel in collaboration with Apple. The MacBook Pro supports up to 10Gbps speed, and according to Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, the technology is ''revolutionary''. The new Facetime HD camera has a resolution thrice that the previous one, and delivers a further push to Apple's aim to popularise video-calling.

The company also released for preview by software developers, a version of its new operating system Lion.

Among the new features are ''Mission Control'', that allows users to view all currently running apps, a new home for Mac Apps called Launchpad and new multitouch gestures. The final version of Lion is expected to start shipping to customers this summer. An announcement for a new iPad is also expected on 2March.
