iPhone 5s demand outstrips supply in India
06 Nov 2013
The iPhone 5s and 5c opened for sale in India on Friday 1 November ahead of the Diwali weekend to a demand that rapidly outstripped supply and on Tuesday.
At leading electronic retailers such as The MobileStore, PlanetM, UniverCell and Future Group, while the 5S stocks had run out, the lower-priced 5C phones have been available.
Reliance, which is offering the phone on an EMI payment with a two-year lock-in, had run out of the devices in one and a half days.
But it is not just the big retailers who are facing a supply shortage, even local mobile stores seem to have limited supply of the iPhone 5s, which seems to be in high demand.
According to most sellers, the gold-coloured iPhone 5s was not available anywhere in the market, but some said the phone could be available at Rs70,000, which meant a very high premium on the Rs 53,900 price.
However, the iPhone 5c which is priced 'lower' at Rs41,900 does not seem to have been able to generate as much attention.
