Air India (AI) will start four flights a week from Amritsar to New York via London from 11 September. The airline is also considering a direct flight between New Delhi and San Francisco in January.
Air India northern region general manager Rohita Zaidka said the national carrier was also studying the Delhi-Vancouver route. She said the fare for the Amritsar-New York flight would be the same as that from Delhi, making AI the first Indian carrier to directly connect Punjab with the US via London.
Zaidka said the new flight would operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. A bus service from Jalandhar to Amritsar, at no extra charge, would be started for the convenience of passengers.
