Apple drops software plans in India
By Our Corporate Bureau | 19 Aug 1999
Apple India has decided to pull out of software development in India. This follows its global restructuring agenda, while in India it has been stressing on marketing its products. (see article 'Apple plans').
Apple has announced that it will now outsource its software development, stopping all direct software development in India. For this, it has alliances with various leading software houses in India with only the quality management being done at its co-ordination centre in Bangalore.
Apple has moved to this model since it gives more flexibility given that the partners have the requisite talent and experience. It has an alliance with Infosys and Pentafour for web-based and multimedia application development. Following this move Apple will redeploy the 50 odd professionals in India or abroad.
