04 Oct 2012
Bajaj Auto's sold 35,000 units of Discover 125 ST in September, within three months of its launch, making it country's largest-selling brand, even as the company witnessed a sharp decline in overall motorcycle sales during the month.
''Discover has been a technology and marketing success story for Bajaj,'' Bajaj Auto President (Motorcycle Business) K Srinivas says.
Srinivas adds, ''Our strategy of developing differentiated products and thereby creating a sharp brand position has clearly succeeded. We firmly believe that brands work only when they have a sharp position.'' .
The company is also planning to launch its new 100 cc bike by the end of the year, Srinivas said, adding this would the company's highest-priced bike.
Bajaj Auto attributes the decline in sales to the forthcoming Diwali festive season commencing a month later compared to last year. Buyers generally wait for discounts and freebies offered by companies during the festive season
The company's motorcycle sales in September declined 15 per cent to 3,15,314 units, as against 3,71,208 units sold during the same period a year ago. It sold 44,838 commercial vehicles during the month, a 4 per cent decline from 46,478 units sold in September 2011,
