BT apologises to customers for broadband outage

BT has apologised to its broadband customers after a services outage throughout the UK that lasted over the weekend, IT Pro reports.
The outage resulted in access loss across certain websites which included BT's own customer services hub, leaving customers without any contact with the company. Users were directed by an automated message on BT's customer services phone line to its BT Help pages, which caused more frustration for users.
Twitter, Facebook, eBay, Amazon and other websites affected such as HSBC were also affected.
In a message posted on Twitter, BT Care said, "Sorry about the issues many of you had accessing the Internet this morning. Problem is now fixed - sorry for any trouble caused."
The company later revealed, ''We can confirm it was a network incident and we are investigating the cause.''
The company boasts over 7 million UK subscribers including businessmen.
The BBC quoted a subscriber as saying it started with eBay at 09:30 BST and was spreading like wildfire.
Amazon, Netflix, most forums, Facebook and Twitter were all blocked, with more being blocked all the time, he added.
He said, no one could get through to the BT help pages as, ironically, they were also affected.
BBC also quoted another customer as saying it seemed to be all the major sites that did not work.
He added, his plumbing website seemed also to be down and his was a small business and this affected him as he had people in his office just twiddling their thumbs.
