Dell Inc said yesterday it would acquire privately held Scalent, a data centre software maker, for an amount it did not disclose.

According to Dell, the deal would close in the current quarter.

The deal would help it solidify an important component of its enterprise solutions portfolio, working with its existing line of servers, storage and network platforms, the company added.

Scalent offers software solutions for infrastructure automation in data centres.

Hummer Winblad, JK&B Capital, FirstMark Capital and Credit Suisse count among its investors.

Last week Dell said it was aiming at doubling the size of its enterprise solutions business with acquisitions key to the growth.
