30 May 2014
Ford Motor Co yesterday said that it is recalling around 1.39 million cars and SUVs in North America over steering, rust and floor mat problems.
The Dearborn, Michigan-based carmaker is recalling 915,216 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner SUVs from model years 2008 to 2011 for a potential problem with the torque sensor within the steering column, which could result in the loss of electric power steering assist while driving.
Ford said that it is aware of at least 15 accidents including two minor injuries related to the power steering problem.
The company is also recalling 195,527 Ford Explorer SUV's from 2011 to 2013 model years in North America over intermittent electrical connection in the steering gear that may result in the loss of electric power steering assist while driving.
The carmaker is also recalling nearly 200,000 Taurus sedans in North America from the 2010 to 2014 model years over corrosion in the rear license plate lamps that could cause a short circuit and fire.
The fourth recall covers 82,576 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ sedans of 2006 to 2011 model years over floor mats that may interfere with the working of accelerator pedals.
Ford said that it is aware of two complaints that the accelerator jammed, but no accidents had taken place.
