Facebook launches free voice calls for Android users

With the free voice calls for Android users launched by Faceook today, users can now call other Facebook users for free via Facebook Messenger.

All iOS and Android users in the US would also now be able to Facedial their friends.

With VoIP finally available to all Android and iOS users in the US, users would not need to check what device their friends had.

To make a VoIP call in Messenger that was needed was to click the 'I' icon on the profile of the person and then tap "free call".

Earlier, VoIP for Android was available in 23 other countries.

The app uses smartphones' internet connections to connect, either through a Wi-Fi network or 4G networks.(even 3G networks)

Users did not need to update the Messenger app to use the free voice calling feature as long as they had have separate Facebook Messenger app.

The social network unveiled a feature named Chat Heads earlier this month for both its iPhone Facebook app and for Android on its Facebook Home interface.

Meanwhile, Apple already had its own Phone app on the iPhone, and its iMessage apps on different platforms.

Meanwhile, according to experts who tested the feature on the iPhone earlier this year, the call quality was rather poor. The caller's voice sounded fuzzy and tinny. However, they were not sure what the quality of the calls sounded like on the Android app.

In recent months Facebook adding to its messaging service in both its main app and its Messenger app. In addition to voice calling, the company has also added voice messages and stickers -- which are big emoticons.

Chat Heads which the social network launched earlier this month is available both for its iPhone Facebook app and for Android on its Facebook Home interface.
