Facebook is reportedly working on an app that would give users an option to share posts anonymously with one another.

The standalone app might also come with health-focused features to connect users suffering from the same illnesses to create a kind of support network, The New York Times reported (See: Facebook looking to healthcare to drive user engagement).

The report said, the app would allow use of pseudonyms so that people could engage in discussions about topics ''which they may not be comfortable connecting to their real names''.

Whether the standalone app would connect to the social network's main page and users' account still remained unclear.

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg had earlier announced that releasing new standalone apps would be a priority for the social networking site.

Facebook had already launched an ephemeral messaging app called Slingshot that had already been Messenger downloaded over 500 million times on Android-based devices.

A standalone private messaging app had also been released by Facebook-owned Instagram.
