14 Feb 2011
General Motors India today expressed confidence of 40-per cent sales growth this year, banking mainly on diesel variations of its cars.
New products will include a diesel version of the compact car model Beat, a Euro IV-compliant version of its multi-utility vehicle Tavera, and a light commercial vehicle, a senior company official announced.
''This year, we will launch the diesel engine-powered Beat model. This will give us good volumes. We will also be launching the Euro IV emission norms-compliant Tavera and a LCV.
In addition, we will introduce six new cars over a period of two years at an outlay of $300 million,'' GM India vice-president P Balendran told reporters in Chennai.
The company will also launch an upgraded Captiva model. The six new models, Balendran said, would include a compact car, a sedan, a sports utility vehicle, a pick-up van and a MUV.
According to Balendran, the company sold around 1.10 lakh units in 2010, up from around 69,000 units in 2009.
