General Motors to recall 20,000 new Cadillac SRX over loose wheel nuts
24 May 2013
General Motors (GM) yesterday said that it will recall nearly 20,000 new Cadillac SRX SUVs over loosening wheel nuts that could lead to a wheel coming off.
The Detroit-based automaker informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is recalling 18,871 2013 SRX SUVs with 18-inch wheels in the US and nearly 1,000 in Canada on concerns that a wheel could eventually fall off.
GM said that it has been investigating the problem since October 2012. In March and April, GM received six reports for noise and other issues caused by loose lug nuts.
GM said owners could experience creaking, rattling or grinding noises from the wheels or steering vibrations.
Canadian safety regulators said that the wheel nuts may not have been tightened enough at the factory.
The carmaker said that the problem has not caused any crashes or injuries, and no wheels have fallen from vehicles.
GM said that its dealers will remove and reinstall the nuts and rotate the tires at no cost to the owners.
