GM recalls 194,000 Buick cars in China over high beam issue
28 Jun 2014
General Motors has recalled 194,107 Buick Excelle GT cars in China, the American automaker's biggest market, after a quality regulator found that high beams in the sedans could not be switched off "under extreme circumstances," Bloomberg reported.
The recall covers vehicles made from 10 October, 2009 to 2 July, 2012.
GM, which issued the recall after the problem was revealed in consumer complaints, would inspect the car's high beam light bulbs to be replaced if needed.
Due to problems with the lamp bulbs, the vehicles' high beam lights may not function properly if they are used frequently, according to the statement.
The over 194,0000 cars were built at Shanghai GM, which is the Detroit, automaker's manufacturing joint venture in China, according to the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
A China-based GM spokeswoman confirming the recall to Reuters, pointed out that the announcement was not related to GM's recalls worldwide.
This year alone, GM has had to recall around 20 million cars in a series of announcements following the recall of 2.6 million small cars with problematic ignition switches connected to at least 13 deaths and 54 crashes.
Earlier this week, GM stopped sales of 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze models, linked to defective airbags from Chinese supplier Takata.
The recall follows an investigation initiated by the quality watchdog after receiving complaints from consumers.
The company says it would offer free checks and replacements for the bulbs, starting Friday.
