Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk and milk products under the 'Amul' and 'Sagar' brands, has reported record turnover of Rs8,005 crore during the financial year 2009-10.
This represented a 19.3 per cent growth from its last year's turnover of Rs6,711 crore, Parthibhai G Bhatol, chairman of the apex body of the dairy cooperatives in Gujarat, told the 36th annual general meeting of the federation.
"This is an extremely impressive growth when viewed from the perspective of drought effect and resultant drop in milk procurement as well as 27.7 per cent growth that we achieved in the year 2008-09," Bhatol added.
He said GSMFC has retained its undisputed leadership in milk business by achieving sales growth of 21 per cent in volume terms and 32 per cent in value terms of pouch milk in its existing markets alone.
"We have achieved number one status in pouch milk sales in Delhi this year," he said, adding, "With this achievement, Amul milk has emerged as the largest selling brand of milk in all major metro markets of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad."
Amul saw its `Masti Dahi' sales grow at an impressive rate of 46 per cent while its ice-cream sales grew 22 per cent in value terms. Amul Cheese sales increased 20 per cent. UHT milk sales grew 14 per cent and Fresh Cream recorded a 39 per cent growth during the year. Beverage sales grew 25 per cent and chocolate sales by 30 per cent, he said.
