Geometric Software Solutions Co. Ltd, a leading provider of software applications, component technology and development services to CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM vendors, is now shifting focus to include industrial software for the Indian industry.

The company, with expertise in solid and surface modelling, feature recognition, data translators, ACIS and parasolid geometry kernels, PDM, nesting and machining, already has most of the major overseas CAD/CAM/CAE vendors on its list of clients. Hence its turning to the Indian industry in its search for new markets.

"Indian industry has realised the importance of software to aid its growth," says managing director Manu Parpia, explaining the shift in the company's growth strategy. While Indian industry has been slow in waking up to the need for software empowerment, the time to strike, according to Parpia, is
now.

The company inaugurated a new development centre at Hinjawadi, near Pune, on May 27. The new Rs 15 crore facility (funded through its IPO in February this year), with a built-up area of 15,000 sq. ft, will house 400 people initially, with provision to double the capacity.

Geometric is carrying out a similar capacity expansion activity at its Phiroshanagar unit in Mumbai.

The company grossed revenues of Rs 33.9 crore for fiscal 1999-2000, with profit from operations amounting to Rs 8.01 crore. About 44 per cent of its revenues come from licensing technology, while 56 per cent comes from services.
