HUL to license' Lakme' and 'Lever Ayush' brands to Lakme

Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) announced earlier this week that it had licensed 'Lakme' and 'Lever Ayush', brands to it's subsidiary, Lakme Lever Private Limited's Beauty and Wellness services business.

HUL currently operates in the Beauty and Wellness services segment, through a network of largely franchised Lakme Beauty Salons and Ayush Therapy Centers.

Lakme Lever will now evaluate options for developing a different, business model for the brands asthe the current business model has resulted in an "insignificant" contribution to HUL's, turnover and profits.

Growing disposable incomes and changing lifestyles in urban India have led to greater awareness about personal grooming, health and wellness. The emerging trends, augur well, for Beauty and Wellness services sector, levers said, presenting it a large and exciting opportunity.
