Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) today announced the launch of its fourth-generation Honda City cars for the Indian market, in both petrol and diesel versions.

The base petrol variant of the new Honda is priced at Rs7.53 lakh (ex-showroom) with its high-end variant coting Rs11.4 lakh.

The diesel base variant costs Rs8.77 lakh (ex-showroom) while its high-end variant will be available at Rs11.30 lakh.

The new City, which is developed as a global sedan, combines the best of Honda's technologies, including sporty design, best of comfort and maximum fuel efficiency.

The petrol variant of the new Honda City, powered by the existing 1.5 litre iVTEC engine, claims to give up to 18 km per litre.

The diesel version, with the recently launched 1.5 iDTEC diesel engine would give up to 26 km per litre of diesel, according to Honda.

Honda, which unveiled the fourth generation of the City on 25 November, had since discontinued the third-generation model of the sedan.

''With the best of both petrol and diesel technologies available in Honda City, we are very confident about the success of the model, which will significantly contribute to our business growth in India,'' Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) president and CEO Hironori Kanayama said at the launch.

The new City was developed at the Honda R&D Centre in Tochigi, Japan, following extensive market surveys in India and the ASEAN countries.

Honda City, which was first introduced in India in January 1998, claims to have a customer base of over 4.3 lakh across the country.

Meanwhile, Honda also launched a mobile application that extends services to their customers.

Honda Cars India had last year started selling the diesel compact sedan Amaze, which at 25km per litre is claimed to be more fuel-efficient than other comparable models.

The Honda Amaze, introduced in April last year was the company's first diesel offering in India.

The company had sold 73,000 units in 2012-13 and aims to market 1.2 lakh cars this financial year on the back of new launches.
