New Delhi: On the heels of Pakistan having decided to subsidise economically disadvantaged owners of two-wheelers and small cars through 'Benazir cards' allowing them a monthely fuel subsidy of Rs(Pakistani)1,000, Hyundai Motor India Ltd is offering a free fuel vouchers worth Rs2,700, with every Santro and i10 purchased between 20 June and 30 June 2008.
The offer is expected to offset some of the additional cost of fuel that the customer would have to bear because of the recent fuel price increase. The calculations are based that on the assumption that a regular customer would use the car for to travel a distance of approximately 50km every day and the additional amount that he / she would have to pay for this in the first six months (because of the increased price) corresponds to the voucher amount that HMIL is offering with the purchase of the car.
''This is our way of helping customers cope with the increased fuel costs, and to demonstrate that the hike translates into just Rs2700 on fuel bills for a period of six months, given the fuel efficiency of a Santro or an i10.'' said Arvind Saxena, senior vice president, Hyundai Motor India.
Citing a report in the Decemnber issue of motoring magazine, Autocar, Hyundai says, the Santro and the i10 yield 14km per litre. Given this level of fuel efficiency, the fuel price hike translates into an additional cost of Rs0.36 per km when driving a Santro or an i10.
"Allowing for an average usage of 1250km per month, the cost from the price to a Santro or an i10 user would be Rs446 per month or Rs2678.60 for six months, a sum that Hyundai Motor India offers to reimburse," the company said.
The scheme is being executed in partnership with Indian Oil Corporation.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea. HMIL presently markets 31 variants of passenger cars across segments that include the Santro in the B segment, the Getz Prime and the i10 in the B+ segment, the Accent and the Verna in the C segment, the Sonata Embera in the E segment and the Tucson in the SUV segment.
