Low-end products from HP
06 Jul 1999
Apollo Consumer Products, the wholly owned subsidiary of Hewlett Packard of the US, will launch computer peripherals aimed at the ultra low end of the market in India. These products will be priced in the region of $100.
Apollo deals in low priced products based on HP technology, which are aimed at the consumer segment. Its products will carry the HP logo and leverage on HP''s brand equity. Apollo takes care of product development and brand building and keeps overhead costs low.
This approach of HP''s is intended to reach out to the low end of the market without diluting its own brand equity. HP sees a major opportunity for low priced products in emerging markets like India and China.
All Apollo products are priced below $100 and designed as consumer products. In the US, Apollo has launched an inkjet printer designed for girls, named Barbie, and is lining up a few other products shortly.
Wipro has been signed on as the national distributor for Apollo''s products. The Apollo P1200 range of colour inkjet printers will be the first set of products to be launched in the Indian market. These printers will cost about Rs.5,000.
