Hewlett-Packard to buy software security firm Fortify Software

Hewlett-Packard, the world's largest personal computer maker, yesterday agreed to buy Fortify Software, a software security assurance company, for an undisclosed amount, in order strengthen its advanced security analysis technology.
Privately held San Mateo-based Fortify provides products and services that protect against threats posed by security flaws in business-critical software applications.
Its software security suite, Fortify 360, drives down costs and security risks by automating key processes of developing and deploying secure applications.
Its customers include government agencies and Fortune 500 companies in a wide variety of industries, such as financial services, healthcare, e-commerce, telecommunications, publishing, insurance, systems integration and information management.
Founded in 2003, Fortify received initial funding from Silicon valley-based venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.
The two companies previously worked together in developing an advanced security analysis technology Hybrid 2.0 that strengthens and the acquisition will help HP to accelerate development of this technology to build scalable enterprise application security programs.
