HPCL marks a first by taking woman on board
22 Dec 2010
For the first time in the history of a public sector unit, a woman is set to join the board of state-owned oil marketing company Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd, a 'Navratna' or high-performing PSU, with the selection of Nishi Vasudeva as director (marketing).
Vasudeva, 54, was selected for the board job at HPCL by government head-hunter Public Enterprise Selection Board in interviews conducted on Monday, the company announced.
She was named the number one choice for director (marketing) after PESB interviewed more than a dozen candidates, a report said.
The post of director (marketing) in HPCL fell vacant following the appointment of incumbent Subir Roychowdhry as the chairman and managing director of the company.
Sources said this is the first time that a woman has made it to the board of a PSU.
An IIM-Kolkata graduate, Vasudeva is currently executive director in charge of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in HPCL.
She will take over as director (marketing) in the company once her selection is approved by the cabinet committee on appointments, which may take at least a couple of months.
