Mumbai: Infotech Enterprises today announced that its UK subsidiary, Infotech Enterprises Europe Ltd, has signed a multi-million Euro contract with GE Energy to provide geospatial data management services for Swisscom Fixnet, Switzerland. It is the largest single-vendor contract of its kind awarded to an offshore GIS services company and underlines Infotech's position as the leading supplier of geospatial data services to the global telecom industry.
As a part of the Swisscom initiative called 'project planning tool for the access network' (PTA) , Infotech will be responsible for performing all the data transformation work of Swisscom's network asset information from different legacy systems to a new target system based on GE's Smallworld Network Inventory Product Suite. Infotech will create the spatial database for GE to implement a sophisticated network planning solution for Swisscom, enabling the customer to optimise its project-planning processes and accelerate the time to market for new services. In addition Infotech will provide related software services such as process automation, query and generation tools.
The project will be executed over three and a half years and involve up to 400 staff at Infotech's offshore production facilities as well as a dedicated local project team based in Bern, which will provide a range of services including project management and query support..
"We have been able to demonstrate the strong process experience and execution capability that GE needs to deliver this complex project to stringent deadlines and to budget, says BVR Mohan Reddy, chairman and managing director, Infotech. "Infotech is now in the forefront of GIS suppliers to the telecom industry, having secured over $28 million in contracts in the last three years," he adds.
According to John Renard, managing director, Infotech Enterprises Europe, "It is very interesting to see the change and evolution taking place in the European Telecoms market. As the requirements increase for improving the speed, precision and consistency of their services, organisations like Swisscom are leading the way in demanding, and needing, better and more accurate information around their physical assets. Our skills and focus in this area make me confident that we will be able to add considerable value to Swisscom on this project and we look forward to working with GE to achieve this.
